Struggles of a Dog Photography Session

Dog Photography is one of the best jobs in the world. Who wouldn’t love spending time with dogs in beautiful locations!? There are certainly difficulties that come with the territory though. It can be hard to know what you dog is thinking sometimes.

The Struggles

Here are a few of the struggles that may come with a dog photography shoot but also why there’s no need to fret!

  • My dog will not sit still!

Dogs can be giant balls of energy and sometimes just do not want to cooperate. It’s important to remember they can tell if we are getting upset so if you get frustrated that your dog is not listening it will only make the situation worse. Sometimes you just have to let them get their energy out and I love to do this on my shoots. It’s a great opportunity for action shots.

  • My dog will not look into the lens!

This is very easy to deal with. Dogs have incredible senses. Sound, Smell, and Taste will be highly utilized to get some amazing expressions out of your pup.

  • My dog is scared of the camera.

This is a difficult obstacle. We overcome this by early on letting your dog become familiar with the equipment and the sounds it will make. This coupled with lots of treats during our show and tell that eventually the camera means they get tasty snacks!
